History
Marina was established on 29 September, 1983 by Mr. Amit Roy with the sole aim of providing medical facilities to the people of Jalpaiguri. It was later taken over by the present team under the leadership of Dr. Pradip Kumar Barma, the Chairman cum Manging Director,who initially revamped the old building, constructed a new building adjacent to the old structure and are working on further evolving the present infrastructure and setting up another building. From a mere 35 bedded facility with a few specialities and minimal infrastructure under the name of Marina Nursing Home, the Institution has metamorphosised to its present form where ultramodern facilities with advanced equipment for imaging and diagnostics, ICU/HDU and modular Operating Theatres serve 118 in-house patients at a time under the denomination of Marina Medical Centre Pvt. Ltd. company.

Department of Pathology
The department is working devotedly to provide valuable insight into the disease pathology of the patients getting treated at our centre. Various tests performed by the department includes Serum studies, cytopathology, histopathology, bone marrow studies and immunohistochemistry, karyotyping.
Dr Shreyasee Sarkar,M.B.B.S,M.D (pathology) is aconsultant onco-pathologist, practising since 2016. She has experience working at Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata. Her areas of expertise include clinical haematology, cytopathology, histopathology, bone marrow studies and immunohistochemistry. She is the first one to start immunohistochemistry in the North Bengal region. Besides devoting time at our centre, she also heads the department at Hope and Heal Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.
Department of Radio-Diagnosis
The department of Radiodiagnosis is working 24x7 to provide radiological evidence of diseases and provide imaging reports in emergency cases. The department is adorned with advanced imaging systems like Ultrasound, Digital X-ray/ portable X-ray, CT scan (Siemens - 32 slices, resolution up to 96 slices), MRI (Siemens 1.5 Tesla, with upgraded software for image processing). Image guided biopsies, FNACs ae routinely being performed. These facilities may be availed by patients both in-house and on OPD basis. The reporting quality is impeccable and helps clinicians bolster their clinical suspicion. The department is gearing up to start intervention procedures soon, which will help reduce morbidity and procedure time in certain cases.
Dr. XXXX XXXX, MBBS, MD (Radiodiagnosis) is a skilled radiologist who completed his MD degree from Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Loni, Maharashtra. He has been practising for more than 5 years and has special interest in Obstetrics Ultrasound and Body Imaging in which he has a fellowship as well. He also performs CT guided procedures like FNACs and Biopsies.
Department of General Surgery
The Department of General Surgery was started Dr. Abhishek Biswas in 1999, who is a skilled General and laparoscopic surgeon. The department has evolved by leaps and bounds since then. From only Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies to complex Hernia and appendix surgeries are being done laparoscopically. The infrastructure of Operating Theatres also has developed from Simple monitors to HD and 3D 4K multiple screens; from simple bipolars to vessel sealers, Bipolar power grasping forceps, ultrasonic cutting devices and an unending list of other devices has complex surgeries earier and safer.
Dr. Kallol Kumar Roy, MBBS, MS, FMAS, FIAGES is a successful General Laparoscopic Surgeon and Endoscopist who has more than 18 years of experience and has performed more than 12,000 laparoscopic surgeries so far. He has special interest in advanced laparoscopy and endoscopy and has trained rigorously at Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Guwahati. He has presented several papers in conferences and has won prizes as well.
Dr. Debabrata Gope, MBBS, MS (General and Laparoscopic Surgery), FMAS is a popular Surgeon who has been practising for more than 5 years after completing his training from Dr. DY Patil Medical College and Research Centre, Pune. He has worked at Pune, where he published many research papers in reputed national and international peer reviewed journals. He has special interest in Minimally Invasive surgeries and has performed many complex surgeries in the last few years. He has also done a commendable job of extending the scope of laparoscopic surgeries to paediatric population.
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides complete obstetric care including adverse pregnancy conditions. Infertility/ sub-fertility, and menopause management are also being done diligently. Complex gynaecological diseases like endometriosis, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries and malignancies are also being efficiently treated at our centre. We take great pride in being the first hospital in the north Bengal region to have started endoscopic surgeries (laparoscopic and hysteroscopic) for treating various gynaecological diseases like Ovarian tumours, Fibroids, Endometriosis, Abnormal Uterine bleeding, Infertility, and a plethora of other such diseases. Prenatal diagnosis with ultrasonography and serum markers are being done routinely. Modern equipment and technology are being used for diagnosis and management of various ailments. Dr. Poulami Barma, MBBS, MS(G&O), FMAS, FRM is a leading Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgeon in Jalpaiguri, who has changed the perception of common people about minimally invasive (keyhole)surgery in this part of India. After securing Master’s degree she refined her skills at Pt JNM Medical College Hospital as Assistant Professor for 3 years, following which she went on to pursue Fellowship course in Minimal Access Surgery and Reproductive Medicine at the prestigious Paul’s Hospital, Kalloor, Kochi, Kerala. During this period, she has also attained training in Gynae &Obs Ultrasound imaging. During her training she has received several awards from AMOGS and RACE. She has published her clinical and research work in several national and international G&O journals. She has delivered several talks as Faculty in National and International Conferences. She is a lifetime member of FOGSI, IAGE, Endometriosis Society, India.
Dr. Pradip Kumar Barma, MBBS, DipGO is a visionary, who after completing graduation from Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata, acquired training in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. He also trained in Laparoscopic Gynaecological surgeries with Dr. P. D Mahapatra. He played a crucial role in developing Marina Medical Centre right from its inception. He held the position of President, IMA Jalpaiguri. He also was the Vice President IMA- Bengal State Branch. He also held the position of President Rotary Club, Jalpaiguri, twice. He was elected MLA from Jalpaiguri Sadar constituency in 2021. He is also Chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samiti, Jalpaiguri Govt. Medical College, and Hospital at present. He has a Wikipedia page dedicated to him.
Dr. Dulal Gope, MBBS, DGO, FMAS one of the co-founders of this institution is a famous gynaecologist and obstetrician, who after completing MBBS, trained at SSSMC, REWA, MP. He has been practising since 1984 and has successfully treated many patients. He also does minimally invasive procedures with extreme dexterity. He has a charming personality and patients and their relatives find comfort in his presence.

The Department strives to shape and fix the broken bones to divine perfection. The facilities for both OPD treatment and IPD management is available at our hospital. A well-staffed reception counter, with spacious waiting lounge makes OPD management seamless. All sorts of orthopaedics emergencies are being managed here with upmost precision. A well-equipped modern Operation theatre has facilities of C-arm image intensification, making reduction and fixation procedures extremely safe and effective. Department of Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery at Marina Medical Centre was started by Dr. Debabrata Sahana, who is the Head of Department. All the modern equipmentlike Microscope, Endoscopes, Advanced drill system, C-arm, modern OT tables are housed in a Modular OT where critical lifesaving procedures are carried out by skilled professionals. Besides management of Head and spine injury patients, complex procedures for brain tumours, spine tumours and endoscopic surgeries are carried out with extreme precision. Children suffering from hydrocephalus (increased fluid in brain) can also be benefitted at this Department. Several Stroke and brain haemorrhagefrom various pathologies like AVMs, Aneurysms and other pathologies can be very well treated at this modern facility. Patients with seizures can also be benefitted through surgery at this facility. Backache a common problem is also dealt with comprehensively here.
Dr. Debabrata Sahana acquired Masters in General Surgery from Medical College Kolkata. Due to his interests in Neurosurgery froman early age he pursued MCH in Neurosurgery from the prestigious Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, which is a premiere Central Institute, one among the five Institutes of National Importance in India and the only one governed by Department of Science and Technology. He was trained under Prof. Suresh Nair. He has worked with eminent personalities in Neurosurgery like Dr. R.N. Bhattacharya, and Dr. Sandip Chatterjee. He worked for several years at Pt JNM Medical College Hospital and DKS Post Graduate Institute and Research Centre, Raipur, where he attained the position of Professor in Neurosurgery. During his tenure there he has performed several hundreds of critical and lifesaving surgeries. He hones special skills in dealing with Brain tumours and Vascular pathologies like aneurysms, Arterio—venous malformations of the Brain and others. His special interests in Skull-base surgeries led him into inventing new techniques, which have been published in international journals and are recognised worldwide. He also is extremely skilled in Endoscopic surgeries for both ventricular and skull base pathologies. He has authored a chapter in textbook and 33 articles, which are published in renowned International and national Neurosurgery Journals like JNS, World Neurosurgery, Operative neurosurgery, Neurology India, Indian Journal of Neurosurgery, Asian Journal of Neurosurgery. He is a lifetime member of Neurological Society of India, Cerebrovascular Society of India, Neurological Surgeon’s Society of India. He has organised several Neurosurgery conferences like Neurovascon 2022, CGMP Neurocon 2023 and has actively participated as Faculty and speaker at various conferences and CMEs. He is a certified reviewer for journal like Indian Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosciences in Rural Practice.At Marina Medical Centre he his continuing his excellent neurosurgical clinical and research work.

Appointments booked online will be treated as "Provisional Registration", we do not charge any fee for that. Patients have to deposit related registration and consultancy fees directly to our transactions counter only.
